204 Suspected Cases Of Monkeypox Reported In Nigeria In 6 months — NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has reported the country has recorded a total of 204 suspected Monkeypox, MPX cases between January and June.

The report shows that, 62 out of the 204 suspected cases were confirmed to be positive.

The Incident Manager, National Monkeypox Emergency Operations Centre, Dr Lateefat Amao, Disclosed these during a Virtual media dialogue on Monkeypox titledx: ”Monkeypox Spread, Infodemic and Public Health Response in Nigeria.”

She said between 2017 and June 2022, about 25 States have recorded cases of Monkeypox in Nigeria.

She also noted that the case appeared to have gone up because of great surveillance by the team together with great awareness.

She said: “Monkeypox is endemic in some parts of Nigeria. The epidemic has been mostly stable over the last five years since the resurgence. Some progress has been made in improving, prevention, detection and response”.
