 Mass Comm Students Laud Dept Press Week.

Students of Mass Communication Department, Edo state polytechnic, Usen have lauded the just concluded departmental press week, saying it was unique and exciting.

The 3-day programme, with the theme, “Mass Media, Insecurity and Community Development,” featured public lectures, football competition, beauty pageant, with the crowning of new Mr and Miss ASMAC among others.It drew participants within and outside the academic community.

A student of the department, Christopher Godwin, described the annual lecture as expository and mind blowing.

He said that “My perspective about journalism before was just a tip of the ice berg; the lectures have really broadened my knowledge,” he said.

In a lecture themed: “Investigative Journalism in the Fight against Corruption,” a media consultant and veteran journalist, Mr tony Abolo said that journalism has a big role to play in the fight against corruption and insecurity.

He urged the students to develop themselves, especially now that they are on campus.

“Journalism is not a lazy man’s job,” he said, urging the students to acquire basic knowledge outside their field, in areas like science, law, medicine so as to ascertain certain issues that they may face in the course of their practice.
