Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo, has passed on at the age of 83 years.
The third from the Alowodu Ruling House, Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.
In the early hours of Saturday, the remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler was brought to Oyo to start traditional rites.
The longest reigning Alaafin ever, died at 83 years having ruled for 52 years.
The Soun of Ogbmoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III died in December 2021, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji died in January 2022. The death of Alaafin about three months after, makes him the third, first class king to die in Oyo State in recent time.
Oyo State has recorded death of other prominent figures that happened concurrently including the death of two former governors of the state, Senator Isiaka Ajimobi and recently, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala.
The Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade, will now lead Oyo before a new Alaafin is installed.
