PDP Crisis Worsens as Pressure mounts on Atiku, Ayu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and the party’s National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, are increasingly under pressure to urgently address the crisis sparked by the recent nomination of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as presidential running mate.

One former governor of Plateau State, Chief Jonah Jang, on Friday sounded the latest warning that the party is at the verge of a disastrous expedition in next year’s general election should it fail to recall its step in the right direction.

Jang’s warning came 48 hours after Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom showed his frustration at the way Atiku ignored the recommendation of the PDP committee that the vice presidential candidature should go to Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose on the same day as Ortom declared on Twitter that it was the turn of the southern part of Nigeria to produce a President.

He suggested that the party had strayed from the provisions of its own constitution on rotating the presidency between the North and the South.

One of Governor Okowa’s aide said on Friday that his boss was willing to “work very well” with Wike and ensure that the party wins the 2023 elections.

But sources within the party told journalists that the anger over Atiku’s decision on Okowa was not about to ease off.
