Academic Excellence: Edo Poly Rector Lauds Obaseki as Poly Commences Dip Program in Safety, Industrial Engineering

The Rector of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen Professor Abiodun Falodun has lauded the state Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for creating the enabling environment for the polytechnic to thrive and be able to raise the frontiers of knowledge, as well as academic excellence and innovation.

Professor Falodun in his remarks at the 5th Eminent Scholar Lecture Series of the polytechnic said that the polytechnic is unrelenting in demonstrating its viability and ability to change and induce change via research contributions to sustainable development and improvement of society at specific platforms.

The lecture was themed, “Engagement of Safety in the Environment.” According to him, “Edo Poly has successfully completed the documentation and awaiting NBTE accreditation for nine academic programmes, including HND in Accounting and others.

“Seven new courses have been introduced, namely Agribusiness, Health Management Horticultural Technology, Environmental Science and Management, Purchasing and Supply, Procurement and Supply Chain Management.”

He said that the courses would no doubt enhance the rating and visibility of the polytechnic and most importantly, the polytechnic would then be a hub producing specialized manpower for Nigeria and the global community.

The Rector also disclosed that management has signed am MoU and other relevant documents with the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria for the commencement of a National Diploma programme in Safety and Industrial Engineering.

The implication of this, he said is that “Edo State Polytechnic is the second tertiary institution in the South-South geo-political region that would be running safety programme.”

The scholarly lecture was delivered by Squadron Leader Abdulmajid Na’Imna of the Air force Institute of Technology, Kaduna and an Armament Engineer from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

He called on the state government to come up with a more comprehensive policy framework for more awareness on health and safety and as well institutionalize health and safety in the environment.
