Cost of Food Items Soar High Across the Country

The high cost of food items and other essential commodities, has continued to take its toll on the average Nigerian.

 A visit to Usen market in Ovia south west Local government area of Edo state, reveals that, the price of food items has astronomically taken a leap.

One of the traders, Mrs Esther Igbinedion, in an interview said ” the rate at which the prices of fish has risen, is becoming unbearable. “You might go to the coldroom today and the  price of fish will be quite different from what was obtainable the previous day”.

She further stated that, the rise in the cost of commodities began early last year and the rate at which it is increasing, there is no assurance it will come down soon.

Another trader who pleaded anonymity said” most items like egusi, pepper,  tomatoes and some other items that are commonly consumed by the ordinary Nigerian has become a no go area.
