Edo Poly Rector Commends Obaseki’s Reforms In Education, As School Matriculates 1850 New Intakes

The Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, has matriculated 1,850 new students who were offered admission into its National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes for the 2022/ 2023 academic session.   

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Omoruyi Sylvester who spoke on the occasion, acknowledged the Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki’s consistent support in ensuring that all programmes in the Polytechnic gain full accreditation.

According to him, “Governor Obaseki’s concern about the progress of our Polytechnic, especially in the aspect of accreditation, led to accreditation of six programmes during the recent NBTE Quality Assurance and Resource Visitation to the Polytechnic in January ”.

“it is my pleasure to inform you that with the support of the State Government through the office of the Commissioner of Education, Dr Joan Oviawe, that management is also making preparations to invite NBTE for another set of accreditation and resource inspection of more programmes”.

Engr. Omoruyi Sylvester told the students to consider themselves lucky for being among those admitted into the Polytechnic and urged them to prove their worth by working hard and embrace the various learning opportunities and technology innovations available at the Polytechnic that will groom them as top notch in their chosen programmes.

The Commissioner of Education, Dr Joan Oviawe, represented by Dr. Osamuyimen Oni Ekhosuehi at the occasion, reiterated Governor Obaseki’s commitment in ensuring that Edo State Polytechnic, Usen becomes a leading Polytechnic in Nigeria.

Recounting the gains recorded in the ongoing reforms in tertiary institutions in the state, Dr Joan Oviawe revealed that the Governor has key interest in vocational and technical education and thanked the Management of the Polytechnic for the success recorded in this regard.

She urged the newly admitted students not to fall prey to the saying “school is scam”, stressing that the new students must exhibit sound character and imbibe the values of discipline and learning before they are deemed worthy of obtaining certificates from the Institution.  

Dr. Osuyi Sunday Oghor, Guest Speaker

In a matriculation lecture titled, “TVET Education: Panacea for Economic Development in a Nation”.  Dr. Osuyi Sunday Oghor, of the department of Vocational and Technical Education, Faculty of Education, University of Benin, urged the students to deliberately drive and sustain the realization of their dream and vision, regardless of their background, stating that, “you can make it if you mean it”.

Administering the matriculation oath of allegiance on the new intake, the Registrar of the Polytechnic Prince Elawure Richard reiterated the Institution’s zero tolerance for social vices, and warned students against actions that are detrimental to their academic success in the Polytechnic
