Edopoly Leveraging On NCC’s Wireless Internet Cloud (WIC) To Boost Teaching, Research – Rector

The Rector of Edo State Polytechnic Usen, Engr. Omoruyi Sylvester said the Institution is making tremendous headway in teaching and research with the installation of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) multi-million-naira Wireless Internet Cloud (WIC) project in the Polytechnic.

Engr. Omoruyi Sylvester made the submission while speaking to journalists on his administration’s effort in widening Internet connectivity in Edo State Polytechnic Usen.

Engr. Omoruyi revealed that Edo State Polytechnic was among the six high institutions in the south-south political zone that got the grant for the Wireless Internet Cloud (WIC) project from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), under the Advance Digital Appreciation Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI).

The Rector thanked His Excellence, Governor Godwin Obaeski for his continues effort in providing enable environment to attract grants and collaboration from industries and other partners to invest in the Institution.

He also appreciated the management of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for the installation of the first phase of the project which includes the installation of Internet CPE 20/20Mbps bandwidth via Fibre or Point-to-Point ISP radio; dual-radio PRO Access Point/Dual-Band MU-MIMO Wireless Access Point/Dual band Wi-Fi Gigabit Access point and provision of 5.5 KVA generator, and 5KVA network integrated UPS as an alternative source of power supply.

Speaking further on the relevance of the Wireless Internet Cloud (WIC), the Rector stated that he has mandated the ICT Director to generate user name and passwords for staff and students in the Polytechnic to actualize digitised teaching, learning and research in the Institution, stressing that the newly installed WIC will also facilitates the implementation of the Open Distance Flexible Learning system in the school.
