The management of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen has held a capacity building workshop to enlightens its Academic Board Members on the regulations of the Institution. The Seminar was organized to update the newly appointed heads of various departments on the significance of the Institution’s Regulations.
The Rector of Edo State Polytechnic, Prof. Abiodun Falodun, represented by the Deputy Rector Engr. Sylvester Omoruyi, commended the newly appointed Heads of Department on their appointment and urged them to abide by the regulations of the Institution in the administration of their various duties.
Laying emphasis on the need to uphold professional administrative conduct and culture among the newly appointed HODS, the former registrar of the Poytechnic, Mr Cyril Simire urged the Deans and HODS to create an enabling environment for their staffs, stating that an enabling environment serves as a big motivation to staffs and helps in bringing out the best in them.
He also emphasized on the importance of proper documentation, which he said has been a major problem in the Institution, revealing that it has also cost some staffs their promotions. He said “Documentation has been a big problem in the Institution, if information files are properly documented when the National Board Technical Education (NBTE) ask for staffs’ information, it is easier to provide the needed files. Some staffs missed their promotions because of lack of proper documentation by both the Deans and HODS”
He advised the members of the board to always ensure staffs’ documents are properly documented according to authority and gender, emphasizing that each department should try to adopt a filing system for both students and staffs. He encouraged the HODS and Deans to always delegate duties to their staffs.
In same vein, Dr Kess Asikhia, appealed to the members of the board to always keep tabs and be at braced with everything happening in their various departments. Explaining the chains of command in management structure of the Polytechnic urged them exhibit integrity especially dealing with students.
Other management staff who spoke at the special Academic Board Meeting including the Registrar of Edo State Polytechnic, Mr Elawure Richard Osaretin emphasized that all staff must stick to the rules and regulations of the Institution’ engagement while discharging their duties.
