Edopoly: Mass Comm Depart Unveils Digital News Lab To Drive Research In Digital Journalism

The Department of Mass Communication, Edo State Polytechnic, Usen has launched its digital news laboratory to facilitate the creation of news contents for the departmental news website (espuvoice.com) and research activities in media studies.

At the commissioning of the digital news Lab, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Falodun Abiodun, represented by the Deputy Rector, Engr. Omoruyi Slyvester said the project is in line with the implementation of the EDO BEST 2.0 programme of the State Government and applauded the staff of the department for their implementation of ideas and innovation that has given the department a ‘pacesetter status’ in the polytechnic.

Commenting on the state-of-the-art equipment in the lab, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Prince Elawure Richard noted that the digital news lab would encourage students to develop digital skills and will to drive their ideas from inception to impact as obtainable in advance nations.

The Head of the Department, Mr. Victor Ehiagwina said the department will maintain an open access policy that will allow students who are eager to create an inch in digital journalism to fulfil their aspiration.

He added, ‘‘the lab will also be used for research activities, skills training and capacity building workshops for students, in-house staff and external participants in line with global practices’’
