Erosion Sacks Some Residents of Urora Community

Some residents of Urora community were left to count their losses after the heavy downpour that came on Wednesday evening in Benin City.

The rain which started around 3pm lasted for about 3 hours with heavy winds, accompanied by thunderstorms, causing residents of the erosion prone area to panic for fear of being displaced.

As the rains continued, residents of the area got more apprehensive, and true to their fears, the water level grow higher forcing them to abandon their houses taking as much as they could savage of their properties.

Speaking to our correspondent, some of the affected residents said, this has become a reoccurring situation in the area for some years. They claimed that calls to relevant authorities over the years have yielded little or no result.

“As the rain continued after an hour, we knew that we were in trouble once again. We knew it was going to be tough, so some of us started moving our things out early enough” said one of the displaced Landlords.

Recall that, similar situation was experienced in some parts of Benin metropolis on Easter Sunday after a heavy downpour that lasted for about an hour.
