First Monkey Pox Case Recorded In Kwara

Kwara State government has confirmed that the state has recorded it’s first case of monkey pox.

The state said that the recorded case was as a result of rigorous efforts of the surveillance and response team that was put in place since the index case was reported in the country in March.

Commissoner for Heath, Raji Raszaq said that “the first confirmed case in the state involves a 29-year-old Nigerian driver who developed symptoms of fever, generalised rash, and weakness in the last two weeks and had been under our surveillance”.

Raszaq said there was contact with the man’s wife and four neighbours who had similar symptoms where he lives at Gbugbu in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

He said all of the cases have been resolved by the health team.

According to the health commissioner, the patient has been on admission in the last one week because of suspicion of monkey pox.

He also noted that, they have been under strict monitoring by the surveillance and clinical team and they are in stable conditions.

He said the ministry is also notifying the appropriate agencies, especially the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, of the development.

He implored Members of the public to step up efforts at personal and community hygiene as they work together to fight the disease.
