PARIS 2024: Nigeria’s Medal Hopes

The 2024 Summer Olympics tagged Paris 2024 will be held in the French capital between Friday 26th July and Sunday 11th August 2024.

Nigeria went to the last summer Olympics hosted in the city of Tokyo in Japan with a contingent of about 58 athletes and returned with a total of two medals, a silver and a bronze, placing her 74th overall out of 205 countries at the Tokyo Olympics and 8th placed Africa team.

The two medals were, a bronze in Long jump and a silver in wrestling surpassing her zero medal performance at the 2016 London Olympics.

As the world awaits the commencement of the 2024 Olympics, Nigerians are hopeful that the country will claim medals courtesy Ese Brume in the women’s long jump, as well as 2002 World champion Tobi Amusan in the women’s 100 metres hurdles. 

Sports enthusiast are also hopeful that the behind the scenes activities that greeted the camp of team Nigeria will not surface at this year’s event.

If the internal politics that has become a recurring decima at major international sporting events is properly managed and controlled, the country is sure of standing on the podium at least twice and we may even hear the sound
of our national anthem.
