Rangers Set Unwanted Champions League Record

Rangers painful first Champions League campaign in 12 years came to a dishonorable end with a new pointless record at the group phase.

Rangers needed to beat Ajax with at least five goals to move into third place and drop into the Europa League instead, they were reminded of the ruthless and high quality in the tournament.

Goals from Steven Berghuis, Mohammed Kudus and Francisco Conceicao made it six straight defeats for the Ibrox outfit.

Rangers are the 22nd side in the history of the competition to go through the group phase without a single point and are the first Scottish team to do so.

Dinamo Zagreb had previously held the unwanted worst record with a minus 19 goal difference from season 2011-12, a tally equalled by Viktoria Plzen this season.
